Bathroom Refit in Shawlands

The Brief

A Shawlands homeowner had a tired bathroom that no longer suited the family's needs. The existing suite was dated, the layout was awkward, and the wall tiling was beyond cosmetic repair. They wanted a full refit: a modern three-piece suite, a proper walk-in shower in place of the cramped over-bath unit, fresh wall and floor tiling throughout, and a finish that would last. Tight timing was important. They wanted the room back in use inside a week.

What We Did

Our work over four working days included:

• Strip-out: Carefully removed the old bath, basin, toilet, and all wall and floor tiles. Isolated water and waste, capped supplies, and prepared the room for the new layout.
• First-fix plumbing: Reworked the hot and cold supplies and waste runs to suit the new layout. The shower position changed, so new pipework was routed and pressure-tested before the walls went back up.
• Walk-in shower installation: Fitted a low-profile tray, a thermostatic mixer shower, and a frameless glass enclosure. The shower wall is tanked behind the tile for long-term protection against moisture.
• Three-piece suite: Installed the new bath, vanity unit and basin, and a soft-close toilet. All connections were sealed and tested before close-up.
• Full re-tile: Tiled the walls and floor with the client's chosen porcelain tiles. Grouted, sealed, and finished with brushed-chrome trim around the shower and bath.
• Second-fix and finish: Fitted taps, towel rails, the heated towel radiator, and decorative trim. Tested every joint, then gave the room a final clean before handing the keys back.

The Result

A clean, modern bathroom that uses the space far better than the old layout. The walk-in shower is the headline change. It is bigger than the old over-bath unit and far easier to keep clean. The homeowner had the room back in use on the fifth day. Every fixture and the workmanship are covered by our standard 18-month bathroom guarantee.
